The Abia State Police Command has apprehended a police corporal, Obagi Njok, in connection with the shooting death of Emmanuel Michael Okocha, an Abiriba-born businessman, in Aba.

On April 17, Mr. Okocha was fatally shot along the Aba-Owerri Road for allegedly refusing to bribe officers despite possessing a valid vehicle license. He succumbed to his injuries on April 19.

Following the incident, the Abiriba community demanded justice. The Abia State Police Command, in a statement released by spokesperson ASP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the arrest of the officer.

According to the statement:

* Corporal Njok, attached to the Abayi Police Division, has been apprehended.
* Disciplinary procedures have been initiated.
* Appropriate sanctions and legal consequences will follow.
* Representatives of the bereaved family and stakeholders will be involved in the proceedings.

The Police Command expressed regret over the incident and extended condolences to Mr. Okocha’s family and loved ones. CONTINUE READING
