On Thursday, hundreds of protesters stormed the APC national secretariat in Abuja, calling for the resignation of party chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje. The protesters, representing the Concerned North Central APC Stakeholders, chanted slogans and carried banners demanding “Ganduje Must Resign” and “Return APC Chairmanship to North Central.”

Their demands follow Ganduje’s recent suspension by a faction of his ward executives and allegations of bribery by the Kano State Government. Despite a vote of confidence from 37 state chairmen of the APC, the protesters claim Ganduje’s continued leadership violates the party’s zoning process.

Leader of the protesters, Mohammed Mahmud Saba, stated that the North Central had passed a vote of no confidence in Ganduje and demanded his immediate resignation. He cited the region’s significant contribution to Tinubu’s presidential campaign, which he said entitled them to the party chairmanship.

“We feel betrayed and spited because we gave His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the third highest votes after North West and South West in the country,” Saba said.

The protesters urged President Tinubu and Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume to return the party leadership to the North Central. They also demanded that North Central APC governors mobilize their members to support their cause until Ganduje resigns.

The protest comes amidst ongoing controversy over Ganduje’s suspension and the alleged bribery allegations against him. The ruling party has dismissed the suspension as the work of impostors sponsored by the Kano State Government. CONTINUE READING
