Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) President Festus Osifo has stated that the announcement of the new minimum wage is unlikely to occur on May 1.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Osifo emphasized that the N615,000 minimum wage demanded by organized labor is not final. He explained that this figure was determined after extensive research.
“The Tripartite Committee is still negotiating,” Osifo said. “The TUC had initially proposed N447,000, but we have harmonized our position with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).”
“The new figure is now N615,000. However, the timing of the announcement is still being determined.”
“May 1 is certainly not feasible unless the Federal Government is prepared to pay a minimum wage of N500,000,” Osifo added. CONTINUE READING
