Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, also known as Odumeje, the controversial Onitsha-based pastor, has boldly declared his intention to halt the naira’s continued decline against the dollar.

Odumeje made this audacious claim upon his return from London, where he had traveled for a comedy show. The cleric has repeatedly asserted that he possesses extraordinary spiritual powers that he employs to address societal challenges.

In early April, when the naira gained 12 percent against the dollar, Odumeje had attributed the appreciation to his supernatural abilities. However, the currency has since depreciated, reaching N1,320 to the dollar in the parallel market and N1,339.23 at the official window on Friday.

Undeterred, Odumeje expressed confidence in his ability to reverse the naira’s slide. “I am Indaboski Bahose. The man with power and action. The only one who says, ‘I will bring down the dollar,’ and makes it happen,” he declared.

Odumeje had previously taken credit for the naira’s appreciation in April, when it strengthened to N1,120 and N1,230 at the black market and official window, respectively.
