Seun Kuti, the renowned Nigerian singer and multi-instrumentalist, recently shared how his father, the legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, left him without an inheritance due to his extensive charitable giving. READ THE FULL ARTICLE

In a video posted on Instagram, Seun recalled when he used to receive daily pocket money in primary school, and noted that it was bigger than his teacher’s salary.

According to the controversial musician, his daily pocket money as a pupil was 100 naira and it was still a big sum at the time.

He, however, expressed sadness that when his father died he left him with no inheritance and it was due to the fact that he catered for everyone under his roof and employ.

The Grammy nominated artiste said his father was housing about 500 people in his world famous Kalakuta residence, and about had about 1000 working for him whom he paid daily and weekly

Seun said; “When Fela was the top musician in Nigeria, we were living with about 500 people in our house. All the money I was meant to inherit, Fela used it to cater for people.

“Everyone in Kalakuta was receiving daily allowance and weekly salaries. Both Kalakuta and [African] shrine. Almost 1000 people. They were artisans… We had all the professions in Kalakuta.

“My pocket money in 1990, throughout my primary school was N100 per day. My pocket money a day was bigger than my teacher’s salary.” READ THE FULL ARTICLE
