“Would you consider posting a round-up of cute comfy sandals for a mom who is going on her first girls’ trip to France this summer?” wrote Hannah, a Cup of Jo reader. What a fun question! The great thing about sandals is that they’re flat and easy to fit into suitcases, so you can bring a few. Here are the three kinds I always pack…

1. Strappy black sandals. This Reformation pair is part of my summer uniform (here’s a photo of me, if you’d like to see), and I love the graceful diagonal slant of the straps. The soft footbed feels good, even on long walks. If you’re pinching pennies, you can find cute budget-friendly versions from Dolce Vita and Target.

2. Clear jellies. My friend Alison swears by ’90s-inspired fisherman sandals: “Jellies feel playful and fun, and the clear shade is more grownup and goes with everything,” she told me. “Plus, you can see my red painted toes!” They’re not too delicate, so you can run around with kids, get them wet, and then toss them in a bag.

3. Brown T-straps. I’m digging the pale brown of these sandals (which run narrow, btw!), and the snakeskin version is also very cool. (Here’s a budget option, too.) Another easy style — which you can slip your feet into, if you’re juggling bags and toddlers — are two-strap slides.

Also, silver flats are very big right now, and these sneakers come on every trip of my life!

What shoes do you pack for summer travel? I want to hear…

P.S. Alison’s week of outfits, and what other things do you always pack for a trip?
