France breezed past Luxembourg 3-0 on Wednesday, with Kylian Mbappé starring in the Euro 2024 warm-up match.
Captain Mbappé, 25, registered a goal and two assists in the game, shattering any hope for a comeback by Luxembourg.
The match, France’s first of two preparation games, saw Les Bleus struggle initially to break down Luxembourg’s defense.
Early on, clear-cut chances were rare. Antoine Griezmann struck the post, and Mbappé forced a strong save from Luxembourg’s goalkeeper Anthony Moris.
Despite a lack of fluency in their play, France finally broke the deadlock with Randal Kolo Muani heading in a cross from Mbappé.
In the second half, France continued to face resistance but gradually increased their intensity.
Jonathan Clauss doubled the lead with a long-range effort, and the introduction of debutant Bradley Barcola added more energy.
Barcola’s run set up Mbappé, who scored France’s third goal, sealing a comfortable win.
While it was not the most convincing performance for France, the match had positives for Didier Deschamps.
