There are many different versions of Thai tea. Typically, it’s made with ceylon or black tea and flavored with star anise or tamarind. When I make it at home, I almost always use a Thai tea mix. And almost always it’s topped with sweetened condensed milk.

Thai tea boba is just four ingredients and IMO pretty much the quintessential bubble tea recipe. Thai tea boba is: boba pearls, Thai tea, milk and a little sweetened condensed milk. It’s creamy and flavorful and surprisingly easy to make at home!

Ingredients

  • Thai tea
  • Milk – I use 2% dairy milk but you could use an alternative like soy or oat milk too
  • Sweetened condensed milk
  • Boba pearls

Directions

First, make the Thai tea. I typically make this ahead of time. I like this Thai iced tea mix and I pretty much follow the directions on the package. You combine 2 grams (about 1/2 teaspoon) of the tea mix with 200 ml (about 3/4 cup) water. Allow that to steep overnight and then strain out the tea mix before using.

I will make 4x to 5x this amount to have in a small pitcher so I can enjoy Thai iced tea all week along with making this Thai tea boba recipe.

Next, prepare the boba pearls and allow to cool before use.

Now you’re ready to assemble your drink. In a glass, add the boba pearls and then ice. I drizzle the sweetened condensed milk along the sides of the glass. You could also mix it in with the tea or milk if you prefer.

Then pour in the Thai tea. Then top the drink off with the milk. Enjoy cold!
