Upon her arrival in Nigeria, the unidentified woman, initially in good health, began experiencing severe symptoms days later. She was rushed to a hospital, where she succumbed to the infection.

The woman’s niece, Wura Nicole, confirmed her aunt’s passing in a statement released on Saturday. Nicole revealed that her aunt had been experiencing intense purging and died due to complications related to cholera.

Nigeria has been grappling with a cholera outbreak, with reports indicating that over 30 people have died and 1,141 have been hospitalized. Nicole expressed concern that her aunt’s symptoms, including purging and vomiting, were consistent with the outbreak.

“My aunt got back from Canada last week; she wasn’t sick or anything,” Nicole wrote. “Monday morning, she started purging and vomiting but was able to drag herself to the hospital. She kept saying she was weak until she passed away. Only for us to hear about the cholera outbreak days later.”

The woman’s death serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing health crisis in Nigeria and the importance of taking necessary precautions to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
