American Airlines is giving more benefits to their AAdvantage members, including paying for in-flight WiFi with miles and the ability to purchase Flagship Lounge passes.
American Airlines flyers now have additional benefits with the carrier, all without holding additional elite status or a credit card.
The new bonuses were announced ahead of the long Independence Day weekend.
New Benefits Include WiFi for AAdvantage Miles, AAdvantage Experiences
The additional options are part of the larger AAdvantage changes dating back to the beginning of the year, when American announced the first wave of benefits. Under the next set, flyers have more ways to use their miles than ever before.
First, flyers will be able to use their AAdvantage miles to purchase WiFi connectivity aboard Viasat-equipped narrowbody aircraft. The airline did not say how much the internet connection would cost, but it may be based on flight distance. The benefit will roll out to widebody aircraft by the fall of 2024.
Next, AAdvantage flyers will have the opportunity to cancel their non-refundable basic economy seats and still get a partial trip credit for a fee. The move harkens back to before airlines allowed cancellations and changes without charges, when flyers could adjust their flights for an average of $250.
Finally, flyers will be able to use cash or miles to pay for a single day pass into the business class Flagship Lounges in Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Los Angeles, and Miami. Passes will cost $150, or 15,000 miles at entry.
In the future, the airline is hoping to roll out additional uses of miles. Flyers will ultimately be able to use miles to upgrade seats and purchase AAdvantage Events experiences, while those with “select status” will have the opportunity to use miles to enter the Flagship First Dining Lounge before eligible flights.
