Protesters gathered in Abuja on Monday, demanding the immediate removal of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman Ola Olukoyede.

Led by the Save Democracy Group (SDG), the protesters accused Olukoyede of нарушая закон and disrespecting the judiciary. In a statement by convener Comrade Toyosi Moshood, the SDG alleged that Olukoyede has undermined democracy and trampled on the rule of law.

Moshood further claimed that the EFCC under Olukoyede has deviated from its core mission and become a tool for political persecution. The protesters urged Olukoyede to resign to restore public confidence and prevent misuse of public funds.

“The recent disregard of court orders by the EFCC, an agency tasked with enforcing the law, is a clear indication of its decline under the current chairman,” the statement said.

“The deliberate attempt to publicly trial innocent Nigerians without due process paints the EFCC as an organization that lacks understanding of proper legal procedure. Olukoyede is unfit for this position, and we demand his immediate dismissal.”

The protesters emphasized the sacrifices made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and others in the fight for democracy. They urged the President to remove corrupt officials who do not uphold democratic principles.

“The EFCC chairman has become a liability to the President,” Moshood said. “His actions have raised questions about the government’s commitment to fighting corruption. The EFCC’s current approach evokes memories of the military era, when government institutions were used against political opponents.”

The protesters reminded Olukoyede that Nigeria is a constitutional democracy where all actions must be carried out within the bounds of the law. CONTINUE READING
