Olusola Oke, an aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Ondo, has denounced the rescheduling of the party’s primary election in Okitipupa Local Government Area (LGA).

In a statement released on Sunday, Oke’s campaign spokesperson, Ojo Oyewamide, labeled the move as “an insult to the sensibilities and religion of the people” in Okitipupa.

The primary election was initially scheduled for Saturday but was postponed in Okitipupa LGA after materials arrived late. However, Oke claims that the election never took place in any part of the state.

“How can a primary election that did not occur anywhere in the state be rescheduled in one of the 18 local government areas?” the statement questioned.

Oke accused the APC of attempting to legitimize “a sham” by rescheduling the election in Okitipupa. He described the primary election as “a disheartening mockery of democracy” that has made the party a laughingstock.

Other APC governorship aspirants have also criticized the conduct of the primary election, demanding its cancellation or alleging irregularities.

Meanwhile, Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, who chairs the committee overseeing the primary, has defended the process as transparent. The primary was originally planned to take place across 203 wards in all 18 LGAs of Ondo. CONTINUE READING
