Arsenal’s Champions League journey came to an end as they suffered defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich, crashing out on 3-2 aggregate.
Despite a 2-2 draw in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners failed to end a long standing tradition against Bayern at the Allianz Arena.
Joshua Kimmich’s lone goal emerged the difference between both sides, with the Wednesday encounter ending 1-0 in favour of the hosts.
The match remained tense and tightly contested in the first half, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances.
Bayern came close to an opener, hitting the woodwork with Leon Goretzka’s header, before Raphael Guerreiro’s follow-up effort was cleared off the line by David Raya.
In the 63rd minute, Bayern broke the deadlock as Kimmich capitalized on a cross from Guerreiro, nodding the ball past Arsenal’s defense to put his side in the lead.
Despite Arsenal’s efforts for a comeback, Bayern held firm, denying the visitors any chance to equalize.
