Distribusion, a Berlin-based ground transportation marketplace and technology provider, has received $80 million in Series C funding to bolster the B2B company’s global expansion and to invest in technology for advanced retailing capabilities.

The round, led by TQ Ventures, included participation from Lightrock.

Distribusion provides the digital infrastructure for retailing of bus, rail, ferry and public transport in 70 markets – most outside Europe.

Its portfolio includes nearly 2,000 transportation companies worldwide including Deutsche Bahn, SNCF. Trenitalia, Amtrak and in Asia, Indonesian and Vietnam Rail. For distribution, the company has partnerships with more than 150 companies including Booking.com, Google, Tiqets, Expedia and Omio and provides connectivity through a single API.

Thomas Doering, CEO of Distribusion, said the company has proven it plays a “crucial role” in driving accessibility across the world.

“With only 10% of the world’s population having access to private vehicles, we already see infrastructure stretched and environmental exhaustion, getting mass transport right for the future is imperative. We need to change the way we deliver mass transport,” said Doering.

In the last year Distribusion has added new transportation partners including four in Kenya and Megabus and Brightline in the United States.

“Thomas and the team have built a product-first company spearheading technology innovation in ground transportation with durable competitive advantages,” said Schuster Tanger, co-managing partner at TQ Ventures.

“Distribusion is highly regarded by its partners for the value it creates. We are thrilled to provide the business with the capital to build the category champion and revolutionize ground transportation.”

In its Series B funding round, Distribusion raised €30 million led by Lightrock in 2022. Not long after its 2022 raise, PhocusWire sat down with Distribusion and SilverRail to discuss the ground transportation sector, including the impact of Google and Uber.
