In a press conference, he said: “We have agreed that we will end our collaboration after the end of this season.

“Until then, my coaching staff and I will of course continue to do everything we can to ensure maximum success for FC Bayern.”

However, Tuchel is now expected to STAY at the Allianz Arena.

According to transfer journalist Florian Plettenberg, he is in talks with Bayern Munich over a new contract.

Should he decide to stay on, the 50-year-old will likely sign a two-year deal.

Bayern chiefs started the hunt for a new manager after Tuchel announced his summer departure.

However, they failed to find someone for the job.

Xabi Alonso turned down a proposal from the club in favour of staying at Bayer Leverkusen.

Julian Nagelsmann was another name on the shortlist, but he dismissed an approach earlier this season.

Ralf Rangnick also rejected an offer, instead deciding to stay on as manager of the Austria national team.

And new Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, who made the move to Selhurst Park just three months ago, became the latest to turn Bayern down last week.

Despite initiating talks with Tuchel over a new deal, Bayern are still allegedly considering two Premier League managers.

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi and Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag are understood to be on the club’s shortlist.

Ten Hag could be sacked by United this summer amid his team’s inconsistent form.

Tuchel has been linked with the job at Old Trafford along with Gareth Southgate and Graham Potter.
