Bayer Leverkusen have made history by becoming the first Bundesliga team to complete a full season without a single defeat.

This unprecedented achievement was sealed with a 2-1 win over Augsburg on Matchday 34, concluding the 2023/24 season with 28 wins and six draws.

Nigerian sensation Victor Boniface opened scoring for Xabi Alonso’s side in the 12th minute.

Robert Andrich extended the lead minutes later at the BayArena, giving the hosts upper hand in the opening 45 minutes.

Although Augsburg pulled one back through Mert Komur in the second half, they failed to capitalize on their chances for any major surprise.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen’s remarkable campaign extends beyond just the Bundesliga.

The team has set a European record with 51 games unbeaten across all competitions.

Their journey to this historic milestone began with surpassing Hansi Flick’s Bayern Munich’s record of 33 consecutive unbeaten games, which they achieved with a victory over Mainz on Matchday 23.

They reached the 40-game unbeaten mark with a DFB Cup semi-final win against Fortuna Düsseldorf.

They then set a new Bundesliga record for the longest unbeaten start to a league campaign by defeating Union Berlin on Matchday 28.

The title was clinched with a 5-0 thrashing of Werder Bremen on Matchday 29, marking the club’s first Bundesliga championship.

In total, Leverkusen have won 42 out of 51 matches this season, drawing nine times and being held goalless only once (0-0 against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Matchday 19).

They remain the only team across Europe’s top five leagues yet to taste defeat in the 2023/24 season.

Their treble race starts with the Europa League final against Atalanta on May 22, followed by the DFB Cup final against Kaiserslautern on the 25th.
