In celebration of Independence Day, Marvel Studios has shared a new image from Captain America: Brave New World. It’s a behind-the-scenes shot featuring Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson all decked out in his new red, white, and blue uniform.
Director Julius Onah previously talked about the movie, and shared some additional insight into what is going on in Sam Wilson’s life.
Onah explained that it’ll be the biggest test of Sam Wilson’s life: “It’s really his coming-out show. It’s about putting him through the paces.”
The director also talked about Wilson’s relationship with the American government, saying: “Part of the challenge for Sam as Captain America, working within the government, is the way he’s going to make decisions. The point of view he’s going to have will at times put him at odds with the President.”
He went on to share details on how Wilson is at odds with Tim Blake Nelson’s Samuel Sterns, aka The Leader: “Sam finds himself almost standing between Samuel Sterns and what he thinks the government owes him, and how he wants to go about getting that.”
The filmmaker also addresses Wilson’s lack of superpowers and how they had some fun with that: “The action in this movie is incredibly exciting because this is a guy who can break, this is a guy who can bleed. We get to have a lot of fun pushing him to the limit.”
Kevin Feige also talked about the movie and said he’s looking to capture the same magic that they delivered in Captain America: The Winter Solider by leaning into the whole political thriller aspect of the story.
The movie also stars Liv Tyler, Shira Haas, Tim Blake Nelson, Rosa Salazar, Danny Ramirez, and Carl Lumbly.
The script for the film was penned by Dalan Musson and Malcolm Spellman, both of whom wrote for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Spellman will produce with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.
Captain America: Brave New World arrives on February 14, 2025.
