The Benin Traditional Council (BTC) has denounced plans to install Alhaji Danjuma Garba Binkola as the “Garkuwan Hausawan Benin” by Alhaji Adamu Isah Adamu.
In a letter dated April 18, 2024, signed by Chief Sam Igbe, the Iyase of Benin Kingdom, the BTC expressed concerns about the ceremony, scheduled for May 5, 2024, at 7 Butcher Street, Off Mission Road, Benin City.
The BTC alleges that Alhaji Adamu Isah Adamu has been using the title “His Royal Highness,” which is unacceptable under Benin Traditional and Customary Law. The ceremony, according to the Iyase, violates the sacred customs and laws governing chieftaincy matters in Benin Kingdom.
The BTC further states that the Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, His Royal Majesty Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin, has not authorized or approved the turbaning ceremony.
Chief Igbe urges those involved in the planned event to cancel it immediately to avoid violating the sanctity of Benin’s traditional laws and customs.
The BTC emphasizes that it is the Prescribed Authority on Chieftaincy Matters within Edo South Senatorial District and will not tolerate any unauthorized conferment of chieftaincy titles. CONTINUE READING
