Government Secretary General Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo announced price reductions for rice, oil, bread, cement, and fertilizer, effective immediately. These measures fulfill President Bassirou Faye’s campaign promise to address living expenses.
Rice prices will decrease by 40 CFA per kilogram, while baguette prices will drop by 15 CFA. According to the government, food expenses consume half of the typical Senegalese household budget.
To subsidize the price cuts, the government will eliminate taxes and customs duties on importers, at a cost of 53.3 billion CFA. The duration of these measures remains unspecified.
