According to reports, Gaube was returning from his farm in the evening when unidentified assailants attacked his vehicle. Gunshots were fired, striking him in the eye. The impact caused his vehicle to lose control, hitting a tree and overturning. Gaube succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Our correspondent reports that Hamidu was with four people in the vehicle during the incident, but one of them escaped, while the remaining three were kidnapped by the gunmen.

Speaking to journalists after the burial ceremonies of the late Hamidu, the chairman of Kuje area council, Alhaji Abdullahi Suleiman Sabo, who was accompanied by his Abaji area council counterpart, Abubakar Umar Abdullahi, said, “The monsters behind the death of Hamidu Sarki Gaube are enemies of Kuje area council. I’m deeply pained by Hamidu’s death. My administration will not rest on its oars in its determination to fish out these barbaric murderers and their clandestine sponsors.”

He said further that “because of security reasons, we can not disclose everything to newsmen, but there are measures already put in place by the FCT administration that will sooner than later bring to an end these extremely brutal and wanton killings in the area.”
