According to a notice that circulated on social media on Wednesday, the Oro Festival will be held from August 1 to 15 in various communities across Lagos. The notice stated that the event involves significant traditional rituals.

However, the Lagos State government has denied any involvement in the festival’s timing, which coincides with the protest date.

Gboyega Akosile, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, emphasized that traditional worshippers have the same right to practice their religion as protesters have to exercise their right to protest.

“I saw it just like every other person did. Did you see any signatory to this statement? The answer is no! If it’s not endorsed, then it’s a nullity,” Akosile said.

He advised both protesters and Oro festival participants to avoid confrontation and maintain law and order.

“You want to protest, I want to do my worship, it’s my right,” Akosile explained. “As long as your own right does not disturb my own right, there won’t be a crisis.”

Akosile further noted that security agencies will be present to ensure that the protest does not escalate into violence.
