Speaking to SaharaReporters, the soldiers revealed that they too are suffering from economic difficulties and mismanagement by current and past governments.

The soldiers accused successive administrations of impoverishing lower-ranking military personnel, forcing many to sell personal belongings to meet basic financial needs. They noted that their salaries are insufficient to cover the rising cost of living and the education of their children.

“We face widespread hunger in the barracks,” said one soldier, emphasizing the difficult conditions they endure. The soldiers declared their support for the peaceful protest, urging the public to stand with them in their struggle for better treatment.

Approximately 97% of the soldiers back the protest, stating that only corrupt generals and commanders are against it. They implored Nigerians to recognize their shared humanity and the need for improved conditions across the military and civilian sectors.
