INTERPOL has initiated the process of extraditing fugitive crypto executive Nadeem Anjarwalla to Nigeria, according to Garba Umar, Vice President of INTERPOL’s Africa Executive Committee.

Anjarwalla is wanted in Nigeria on tax evasion charges, along with his colleague Tigran Gambaryan, who remains in custody in Abuja. The Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) detained both men in March for allegedly speculating against the naira and causing its value to decline.

Anjarwalla escaped custody during a Jumat prayer on March 22, 2024. The NSA alleges he fled using a smuggled passport, prompting a manhunt that involved contacting INTERPOL.

Umar stated, “We have located where he was, how he boarded, all information about him and how he landed. We have done that to make sure that he doesn’t escape justice.”

Anjarwalla, who holds British and Kenyan citizenship, was Binance’s Africa Regional Manager before his escape. Reports suggest he may have fled to Kenya.

Umar confirmed that Kenya was Anjarwalla’s last known destination, but declined to comment on whether he had been apprehended there.

INTERPOL has issued a red notice for Anjarwalla, which alerts member countries to his suspected whereabouts and facilitates his apprehension.

Umar emphasized that the extradition process is underway and that Anjarwalla “will be smoked out” and brought to justice in Nigeria. CONTINUE READING
