Roger Mayweather, the renowned boxing trainer and uncle of Floyd Mayweather Jr., passed away on Tuesday night in Michigan. The 58-year-old succumbed to a prolonged battle with diabetes.

Mayweather, a former world champion with an impressive 59 wins in 72 professional fights, played a pivotal role in shaping Floyd Mayweather Jr. into one of the greatest boxers in history.

Floyd Mayweather expressed deep sorrow over his uncle’s passing, stating, “My uncle was one of the most important people in my life inside and outside of the ring. Roger meant the world to me, my father Floyd Sr., my uncle Jeff, our whole family, everyone in and around the Mayweather Boxing Gym and the entire boxing world. It is a terrible loss for all of us.”

Affectionately known as the “Black Mamba,” Roger Mayweather held the WBA super featherweight and WBC super lightweight titles. He worked with Floyd Mayweather Jr. for 12 years before retiring due to his ongoing health struggles.

Mayweather began his boxing career in 1981 and retired in 1999 after a victory over Javier Francisco Mendez. Throughout his career, he amassed a remarkable nine major and minor titles in four weight classes.
