A California flyer is considering legal action against Southwest Airlines, accusing the airline of discriminating against her over a physical condition.

A nurse living in California says Southwest Airlines discriminated against her because of a medical condition that alters her appearance.

NBC affiliate KRCA reports the flyer was traveling from the Sacramento Area to Los Angeles for treatment, but says she was stopped on her return flight due to crew concerns.

Flyer Claims Crew Escorted Her Off Flight Due to Medical “Concerns.”

Brianna Solari is a nurse who lives in Roseville, California. She suffers from neurofibromatosis, a condition that causes small tumors to grow across her skin.

Solari was scheduled to fly from Sacramento to the Los Angeles area for a treatment which would remove some of the tumors. Traveling south was not an issue for Solari, but she claims she experienced trouble returning north.

After boarding her flight at Hollywood-Burbank Airport (BUR), Solari told the TV station a flight attendant asked to speak with her off the aircraft.  She says she was asked if she had a “medical condition or disease,” and told the flight attendant that she was returning home from a surgical procedure. The flight attendant allegedly then spoke to an airline-hired physician, before making the determination that she could not continue aboard the flight.

“I said, let me speak to the doctor,” Solari told KCRA. “I wasn’t examined by this physician.”

Solari claims she needed to get a letter from her doctor clearing her to fly, which allowed her to continue aboard another flight back to Sacramento. She says the carrier gave her a $500 flight voucher and $45 meal voucher for her inconvenience, but Solari claimed she is now considering legal action over the incident.

In a statement to KCRA, Southwest said they were “looking into it and plan to follow up with both the employees and customers involved to learn more.”
