I am a coffee drinker. It really doesn’t matter if it’s cold outside or 90 degrees and humid like it has been the last week, I have a pot of coffee on all the time. I got this from my mother. No matter what time of day it is, if you stop by her house, you’ll be offered a cup of coffee and good conversation. Sometimes when it’s hot outside like it has been, I do enjoy an iced coffee or a blended coffee drink like a frappe. Buying a McDonalds mocha frappe or similar drinks at the local coffee shop is wonderful and a special treat. However, even a McDonald’s mocha frappe a few times a week can really add up. Therefore, I’ve figured out a way to make frappes at home for less. The best part is that because it is homemade, I know what exactly what’s in my Mocha Frappe Recipe (and what’s not)!
What Is A Mocha Frappe?
A mocha frappe is a blended coffee beverage that typically includes coffee, milk, chocolate flavoring, and ice, resulting in a rich and creamy drink. It’s often topped with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle. This drink is popular at coffee shops and can be made at home with a blender. The term “mocha” refers to the combination of coffee and chocolate flavors, while “frappe” denotes the blended, icy nature of the beverage. Some coffee shops refer to what the same type of frozen drink as a Frappuccino.
Recipe For Mocha Frappe
A mocha frappe has a rich, indulgent flavor that combines the bitterness of coffee with the sweetness of chocolate. The dairy makes the drink smooth and velvety. The ice blended into the drink gives it a frosty, refreshing quality, perfect for hot weather. Whipped cream and chocolate drizzle on top add extra sweetness and richness.
Ingredients:
- Coffee (I like a dark roast best.)
- Coffee Ice Cubes
- Half and Half (May sub whole milk, it just won’t be as rich and creamy.)
- Whip Cream
- Chocolate Syrup
- Raw Sugar
How To Make A Mocha Frappe
The first part of this process begins a day or so before you want to make one of these delicious blended drinks. Brew a pot of coffee as you normally would. Once the coffee has cooled fill ice cube trays and freeze them until solid. This is a clever hack for coffee ice cubes which provide a strong coffee flavor. These keep the drink from becoming diluted as would happen if you were to use regular ice cubes.
Place the coffee ice cubes, cooled regular coffee, half and half, chocolate syrup, and raw sugar into your blender. I like to use my Ninja single cup to make mine. For one serving I use approximately 8 coffee cubes, 3/4 cup of cooled coffee, and 1/4 cup half and half. The chocolate syrup and sugar should be added to taste.
Blend until smooth.
Pour the mocha frappe into a cup and add whipped cream to the top. Drizzle a little bit more chocolate syrup on top and enjoy! Or sprinkle with cocoa powder if you prefer.
And that is how to make a mocha frappe at home.
I like to use all natural chocolate syrup and only a small amount of raw sugar to make this a healthier choice than most blended coffee drinks. The whip cream is also natural with no cane sugar and no artificial flavors.
