Delta Air Lines received so many applications to join the carrier as a flight attendant, those applying say the website temporarily crashed.
The allure of a career at Delta Air Lines was so strong, candidates clamoring for a spot at the airline caused their website to temporarily crash.
Business Insider reports the crash happened on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, when Delta opened up applications for the 2025 hiring class.
“The Application Experience May be Slow During This Period”
The application process coincided with Delta’s announcement for the next hiring class opening. The airline said they are looking for “candidates who exemplify Delta’s values and have what it takes to provide our customers with the welcoming, elevated, and caring service that sets Delta apart.”
There were so many who believed that they had the “Delta spirit,” the website ultimately became overloaded with applications. Potential employees took to Reddit to share their experiences, with some reloading the website for over two hours trying to send their resume to the Atlanta-based carrier. A spokesperson for Delta confirmed the difficulty shortly after the website began having issues.
“Due to extremely high demand for Delta flight attendant positions, some applicants reported difficulties [with] the application page on September 4,” the spokesperson told Business Insider. “We have since made adjustments to allow for quicker access.”
Three days later, Delta’s original post about the opening notes that the “application period may be slow during this period.” It is unknown how many applicants Delta received for the positions in the 2025 hiring class.
Potential crew candidates still have time to not only apply for the job but can also hear directly from current employees about the work and qualifications. The airline will hold informational sessions throughout September in Orlando, Greater New York/New Jersey, New Haven, Ct, and Minneapolis.
To be considered for the flight attendant role, Delta says flyers must be at least 21, have a high school diploma or GED, and be able to speak and write English fluently.
