Marvel Studios’ first R-rated movie, Deadpool & Wolverine, is just coming off its wildly successful box office run and it’s still rising through the list of the highest-grossing movies of all time.
Now Disney is hoping the film will attract some major awards recognition. Variety is reporting that the Marvel movie will be submitted for consideration at the Golden Globes in the comedy categories, with Ryan Reynolds’ performance as Deadpool up for one of the six spots in the actor (comedy or musical) category.
As for Hugh Jackman, the plan is to position him in the supporting actor races across all key awards shows, including the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards, Critics Choice, and the Academy Awards.
I have no doubt that Deadpool and Wolverine will get some love at the award ceremonies, especially in many of the technical categories such as production design, sound, and visual effects. But, we’ll have to wait and see if any of the actors will get recognition.
I mean, if Jackman was going to get win an award for any role, it was for his performance in Logan. While Deadpool & Wolverine was great and he did an awesome job in that, his role in Logan is, in my opinion, Jackman’s best performance ever.
Who knows! Maybe Jackman will finally be recognized with a nomination for playing Wolverine after all these years. It’s a long shot, though.
Do you think Deadpool & Wolverine is deserving of major award recognition?
