Today, I am excited to bring you a turkey casserole homemade baby food recipe for 6 months and up from Marni of Love and Duck Fat.  As a new stay-at-home mom with a baby boy she decided to channel her creativity and started her food blog. The recipes you find there are delicious, made-from-scratch meals and desserts.  I like that she uses a some flavorful ingredients in her baby food. Who says baby food should be bland?  With small amounts of herbs, she expands the baby pallet and prepares it for more that just peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!  Without further ado, I turn the stage over to Marni and her excellent recipe for turkey baby food.

This baby food recipe was first published December 6, 2013. I have added a recipe card and republished it here for my new readers to enjoy.

Turkey Baby Food For 6 Months And Up

Your baby will love the rich, comfort-food flavors in this baby food turkey casserole recipe (mine does!). Inspired by delicious home-cooked meals, this healthier turkey casserole recipe is the perfect food for baby. Full of fresh vegetables, potatoes, turkey and creamy yogurt, it tastes just as good as an adult version without the added salt and fats. Store leftovers in an airtight container. It freezes well too, so you can make a big batch to freeze some for later.

I like to freeze leftover baby food recipes in ice cube trays so you can pull out small servings nice and easy. Just be sure to cover them with plastic wrap or foil to keep them fresh in your freezer.

Stage 2 and Stage 3 Baby Food Recipes

Stage 2 baby food recipes are generally appropriate for 6 months and up. These thicker baby food purees are a smooth consistency and usually have a combination of several ingredients and may include grains or proteins in addition to fruits or vegetables.

Stage 3 baby food recipes are generally appropriate for 9 months and up. The difference between the two baby food recipes is the Stage 3 baby food usually have soft chunks of food in the puree for babies that are beginning to chew before swallowing.

This solid foods recipe is appropriate for babies six months old and up, with some adjustments. Puree the mixture until very smooth for younger babies, adding extra chicken broth if necessary. Omit the sprinkle of cheese if your baby does not eat dairy yet. As is, this pureed baby food recipe is like a Stage 2 baby food and should have a smooth texture.  For older babies, you can finely chop the ingredients before cooking, and then mash them together with a potato masher for more of a Stage 3 baby food.

Turkey And Vegetables Baby Food Ingredients:

Use these turkey baby food combinations with organic ingredients, when possible. Organic produce is grown without synthetic pesticides, which can be harmful to developing bodies. Babies are more vulnerable to these chemicals because their organs and immune systems are still maturing. Organic foods can provide a cleaner, more natural start for babies, minimizing exposure to chemicals and synthetic ingredients while offering a potentially healthier nutrient profile.

How To Make Turkey Puree Baby Food:

It is easy to make this homemade turkey puree baby food for ages 6 months of age and up.

The cooked turkey meat for this recipe can come from an oven roasted turkey, as in Thanksgiving leftovers. Dark meat or white meat or a combination are fine. Just be absolutely sure there are no bones as of course those would be a common choking hazard.

Alternatively, you can use a boiled turkey breast. Or even ground turkey cooked in the skillet. Any way you like really. If you don’t have access to turkey, try rotisserie chicken instead. It is another lean protein with similar flavor profile.

Also, you may substitute sweet potatoes in place of potatoes if you like.
