Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has vehemently denied allegations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that he disregarded an invitation for questioning. The EFCC claimed that Bello failed to appear on January 27, 2024, and subsequently declared him a fugitive after an unsuccessful attempt to apprehend him.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Bello’s media office vehemently challenged the accusations. They demanded that the EFCC produce a copy of the purported invitation letter, stating: “Our attention has been drawn to the EFCC’s press statement… in which they continue their unconscionable lies against His Excellency, Yahaya Bello.”

The statement further asserted that official records and court documents contradict the EFCC’s claims. It emphasized that Bello has consistently respected the rule of law and is not intimidated by the agency’s actions.

“While Governor Bello respects the rule of law, he is not afraid of the EFCC,” the statement concluded. “The EFCC’s resort to intimidation and harassment is a desperate attempt to justify their defiance of lawful court orders.” CONTINUE READING
