Fyre Fest’s Billy McFarland Is Working with Donald Trump

Former president and convicted felon Donald Trump has sought the help of Fyre Fest founder and fellow convicted felon Billy McFarland for his 2024 presidential campaign, reports Rolling Stone.

Though he has no formal role in the campaign, McFarland has been part of Trump’s effort to appeal to Black voters, helping to connect the Republican hopeful with rappers on at least two occasions. One of those meetings resulted in a public appearance from Brooklyn rappers Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow at Trump’s recent campaign rally in the Bronx.

McFarland also helped arrange Trump’s June meeting with Detroit rappers Icewear Vezzo and Peezy. Vezzo previously told Rolling Stone that he’d pick Trump over Joe Biden if forced to choose between the two — though his preferred candidate is Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

In June, McFarland hinted at his connection with Trump on Instagram, posting a photo with the caption, “Pres’ birthday featuring your new cabinet.”

All of this comes as a part of Trump’s attempt to chip away at Black voters’ support of Biden. According to a Pew Research survey published in May, 77% of Black voters prefer Biden, with 18% leaning toward Trump.

During the 2020 election, Trump gained the enthusiastic support of rapper Lil Pump, though he didn’t even bother registering to vote.

Now, he has the tacit endorsement of artists like 50 Cent, Benny the Butcher, and Waka Flocka, along with previous supporter Lil Wayne. Even Snoop Dogg has pulled an about-face and said he has “nothing but love and respect” for Trump.

That being said, it’s one thing for an artist to say positive things about Trump and another to make public appearances with him. Given McFarland’s track record, it’s highly doubtful he could pull that off with higher profile names.
