Henry Cavill has been looking to develop live-action TV and film projects based on the popular Warhammer 40K RPG. This is something he’s been very excited and passionate about, but all of that could be in jeopardy due to the fact that there are no “Creative Guidelines” agreements in place.

During its annual financial report, the studio behind Warhammer, Games Workshop, said that these projects will not proceed unless they can come to an agreement on “creative guidelines” with Amazon Studios.

While Games Workshop struck a deal with Amazon that grants them the exclusive rights to develop films and TV series that are set in the Warhammer 40k universe, they said they would work with them for only 12 months to “agree on creative guidelines for the films and television series to be developed by Amazon.”

That began in December 2023 and will end in December 2024, and things will “only proceed if the creative guidelines are mutually agreed between Games Workshop and Amazon.”

As of right now, an agreement has not been reached. This is something that they still have not been able to hammer out. So, if Amazon and Cavill actually want to make this happen, they better get to work on what those guidelines will be!

It would be a shame to this these Warhammer 40K project fall through the cracks.

During an interview with Cavill was asked about the fantasy epic project, and he said: “Warhammer is progressing very well. Big things are happening, and we are very excited.”

Games Workshop previously offered the following details: “All we can tell you right now is that an elite band of screenwriters, each with their own particular passion for Warhammer, is being assembled to help bring the setting and characters you love to the screen.

“This illustrious group will be championed by Henry Cavill, who stands ready to take his place as executive producer – bringing his pen, sword and/or spear to the project.”

They added: “TV and film production is a mammoth undertaking. It’s not unusual for projects to take two to three years from this point before something arrives on screen. Still, things are now properly rolling, and you can bet we’ll bring you all the latest updates and cool snippets as soon as we’re able.”

When the project was first announced, Cavill said: “I have loved Warhammer since I was boy, making this moment truly special for me. The opportunity to shepherd this cinematic universe from its inception is quite the honour and the responsibility.

“I couldn’t be more grateful for all the hard work put in by Vertigo, Amazon and Games Workshop to make this happen. One step closer to making a nigh-on lifelong dream come true.”

Cavill also added, “For 30 years I have dreamt of seeing a Warhammer universe in live action. Now, after 22 years of experience in this industry, I finally feel that I have the skill set and experience to guide a Warhammer Cinematic Universe into life.”

Warhammer 40,000 is a popular tabletop wargame and fictional universe created by Games Workshop. Set in a dystopian future of the 41st millennium, the game features a grim and dark science fiction setting where humanity has spread across the galaxy, facing existential threats from alien species, demonic forces, and its own internal strife.

Players command armies of miniature figurines representing various factions, including the mighty Space Marines, the sinister Chaos forces, ancient alien races, and more, in strategic battles for control of planets and resources.

The lore of Warhammer 40K is rich and expansive, filled with complex characters, intricate politics, and a constant struggle for survival in a galaxy teetering on the brink of annihilation.
