A CAMERA operator on the DP World Tour was rushed to hospital after being struck in the head by a golf ball yesterday.
Swedish tour pro Madelene Sagstrom saw her wayward shot on 18 make every golfer’s worst nightmare of striking an innocent bystander become a reality.
Sagstrom was playing in the Volvo Scandanavian Mixed tournament in Sweden when she found herself caught in the long stuff on the 18th hole.
The tricky shot left her with a long way in from the rough and facing a tough task to catch the ball clean.
Unfortunately for her, and for a nearby cameraman, she didn’t strike the ball as she would have hoped and her shot flew off line and smashed straight into the head of the camera operator.
The man immediately collapsed to the ground holding his face as the ball bounced back into the fairway.
Sagstrom could be heard shouting fore, as is customary to warn bystanders about wayward shots, but her efforts couldn’t warn the man of the ball fast approaching his head in time.
According to journalist Andy Roberts, the camera operator was taken straight to hospital following the incident.
While some four hours after the accident the man remained in A&E, but was understood to okay – just unsurprisingly suffering from a very sore head.
The moment proved costly for Sagstrom too.

The 31-year-old had gone into the 18th two shots under par and on course to make the cut for the weekend.
But thanks to her erratic shots, and no doubt being shaken by the horror accident, she ended up carding a triple bogey on the final hole and finishing on +1.
That one hole swing meant Sagstrom was cut from the event and went home without so much of a chance to take to the fairways on the weekend.
Fans and camera operators alike always run the risk of being hit by a ball when getting so close to the action during golf tournaments.
A spectator was knocked off their seat by a misjudged shot from Thriston Lawrence at the European Open just last week.
While Max Homa came within inches of seeing his shot slam into a fan’s head at the Players Championship in March.
