Our family drove to the Panama City Beach last week and it takes about 7 hours to get there. It’s not terrible but it’s definitely not a quick trip! With 2 kids in tow, I needed to come up with some fun road trip games that would keep them entertained. There’s nothing worse than a bored kid on a long road trip…that’s usually when the question of “are we there yet?” happens over and over again! Our kids love bingo so I thought I would make a Road Trip Bingo Game. It was a hit and so easy to make so I thought I would share a tutorial for how to create your own bingo cards. It is such a fun game!
This article was originally published June 7, 2019. I have made a few updates and added a pdf with the road trip bingo cards.
How To Make Bingo Cards For Road Trip or Parties
Learn how to design unique and customized bingo cards to add a personal touch to your game. This article will guide you through the process of creating visually appealing bingo cards that reflect your style and theme. From choosing the right layout to adding creative elements, you’ll have a blast designing your own bingo cards and impressing everyone with your creativity!
There are a couple of different ways to make your Bingo cards.
- For a computer made printable sheet, I jumped on PicMonkey. It’s a great website for creating all sorts of things and editing too. They have all sorts of emojis you can use to create your own bingo sheets. The only things you need are paper and a printer. The detailed instructions will follow.
- If you want to just grab some plain paper and markers, you could easily make a bingo board by hand! Also grab a ruler and few sheets of different stickers to use as the pictures. It could even be fun to every player make their own personalized bingo cards.
Instructions For How To Make A Bingo Board:
Start by going to an online graphic design and photo editing platform on your computer. I use PicMonkey but others like Canva or Photoshop would probably work too. Select ‘Design’ at the top. this will open up a plain white sheet for you. Now go over to the left and select the butterfly icon and this will open up everything you need to create your board…there is a ‘lines’ category for making all your lines on your board and there are also all types of emoji categories. Choose the emojis for your board based on what kind of trip you are going on. Since we were traveling to the beach, I choose things that we probably would see on the way…sunglasses, trees, hats, etc. I like to add a free space to the middle.
Make a number of cards. If you have more than one child, just mix up the same emojis so they will have a unique bingo card (different sheets)! Easy and a fun way to pass the time, huh? Who knew it was so easy to create your own bingo cards, right?
If it is for a party and not a road trip bingo game, be sure to print out an extra number or cards. Then you can cut up the extras and use them as calling cards for calling out the bingo cues. It is even better than a call list because it is completely random!
For the bingo markers, kids can use coins or candy. Print multiple copies if you want to play multiple times.

We love to play games in the car to help pass the time. For example, the license plate game or watching for unusual road signs. This car bingo printable game was so fun for my kiddos and I enjoyed being able to make my own bingo cards with the pictures I wanted to include.
For the bingo markers your kids can use crayons, dot markers, or stickers. They won’t be able to reuse the bingo boards but they also won’t have to worry about losing their marker if you hit a pothole or have to brake unexpectedly. Another idea is to put each of the different cards into a large, clear zipper bag and let the kids use dry erase markers.
There is no bingo caller with road trip bingo. Kids have to keep their eyes open and pay attention to spot the items themselves. As in traditional bingo, the first person to cover 5 in a row horizontally, vertically, or diagonally wins! You can even play blackout bingo which is a variation where the entire card must be covered to call bingo.
Conclusion
