Didi was apprehended on June 7 by the FCT Police Command’s anti-car theft unit in possession of seven pump-action rifles and over 1000 rounds of live cartridges.
During an interview with THE WHISTLER, Didi acknowledged the illegal possession of the weapons, stating that he received them from an individual he has identified to the police. FCT Commissioner of Police Ben Igweh confirmed this information and disclosed that operatives are pursuing other syndicate members based on the provided details.
Didi claimed to have recently joined the criminal group and that this was his first time handling the weapons. “They just connected me newly,” he said.
He emphasized that he is unaware of the sender or receiver of the weapons and their intended use. Didi’s residence in Dutse Alhaji, an FCT suburb, played a role in his decision to engage in crime, as he was desperate to raise funds for his heart condition.
“I have been sick, and the hospital said they will carry out an operation that will cost N6m,” he explained.
Despite his initial involvement, Didi had not yet received any payment and had failed to raise any funds for his surgery. He provided documents from the Gwagwalada Teaching Hospital to support his diagnosis of a heart condition in 2020.
