An iced matcha latte is probably one the most refreshing and easiest coffee shop drinks you can make at home. With only three ingredients and no special equipment needed, you make this iced drink exactly how you like it!
Iced matcha lattes are made with matcha powder, water and milk. You can choose to add a little sweetness by stirring in some honey or simple syrup or leave it unsweetened. Matcha does contain caffeine, although typically less than the same size coffee. And if you’ve never had it before, I think an iced matcha latte tastes creamy, earthy and complex.

Ingredients
- Matcha powder
- Water
- Milk – dairy or an alternative like oat milk or soy milk
- Sweetener – optional, I like honey or simple syrup
How to Make an Iced Matcha Latte
Add the matcha powder to the cold water. Whisk powder into the water, making sure it fully dissolves and no lumps remain. You can do this by hand with a small whisk, a matcha whisk, or a milk frothing wand.
In a glass, add ice and fill with the milk. If you are using sweetener, add it now and stir into the milk. Then pour your matcha shot over the milk. Enjoy cold!
Types of Matcha Powder
- Ceremonial Grade – The highest quality matcha powder, it’s primarily used in traditional Japanese tea ceremonies or as a standalone beverage. This type tends to be the most expensive but has the best color and flavor.
- Premium Grade – Can be used as a standalone drink but also can be used in cooking or mixed into other beverages like lattes, smoothies, or cocktails. This type is one step below ceremonial grade but still a high quality powder.
- Culinary/Ingredient Grade – Used primarily for cooking, baking or mixed drinks. The quality might be lower than the premium and ceremonial types of matcha, but the ingredient is still great for baked goods and other edible projects.
