Jessie Ware and the xx’s Romy have shared a new song together. “Lift You Up,” produced by Stuart Price, is the first collaboration between the British artists. The two also premiered the track onstage at Glastonbury. Check out the new song, plus footage of the Glastonbury performance, below.
Romy previously worked with Ware on the latter’s 2014 album, Tough Love, contributing co-writing to the song “Share It All.” In a press release, speaking on “Lift You Up,” Romy shared, “I’ve been a fan of Jessie’s music for a long time and it was amazing to finally work together after many years of friendship.… We wanted this song to be uplifting, celebrate togetherness, and I can’t think of a better way to share it with everyone than at Glastonbury.”
Ware added, “I was so excited to be in the room with my friend and to see how she works and to hear her beautiful voice. I’m so proud of the record. It’s a song that’s about both of us being too hard on ourselves, and not believing enough in ourselves. I think anyone can relate to that.”
Romy released her debut solo album, Mid Air, last year. Jessie Ware’s latest album, That! Feels Good!, also arrived in 2023.
Ware will take the stage on Saturday, July 20, for this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago. Also on this year’s lineup are Jamie xx, Alanis Morissette, Black Pumas, Carly Rae Jepsen, Jai Paul, Brittany Howard, De La Soul, Unwound, 100 Gecs, and more. Tickets are on sale.
