Daily Sun gathered that the Nnewi vigilance group reportedly got information that the gunmen were about to enter Nnewi through Nnobi in Idemili South Local Government Area and decided to engage them at the boundary between the two communities.

The source said it was at that point that the gunmen shot and killed the vigilance group commander, one Eloka Ubajekwe. Another account said the sit-at-home enforcers had the encounter with the vigilantes at Nnewichi, near St Peter’s where the shooting happened, adding that many casualties were recorded.

It was gathered that many around the scene of the incident were hit by stray bullets as some of the wounded were evacuated with wheelbarrows to an undisclosed hospital.

Daily Sun could not get through with the PPRO, Anambra State Police Çommand, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, as he did not pick his phone when contacted. However, the Anambra State vigilance Commander in charge of the Anambra South Senatorial Zone, who doubles as the President General of Nzuko-Ora (Town Union), Nnewi, Dr Maduka Atuenyi, confirmed the incident.
