Millwall’s 26-year-old goalkeeper, Matija Sarkic, has sadly passed away after falling ill while on international duty with Montenegro….CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>

Sarkic became unwell at an apartment in Budva, Montenegro, on Saturday morning. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, he died around 6:30 am local time. Sarkic had recently played a full match for Montenegro against Belgium just over a week prior.

Millwall released a statement on their website Saturday morning expressing their deep sorrow.

“Sarkic, The Lions’ number one goalkeeper, made 33 appearances for the club since joining from Wolverhampton Wanderers in August 2023,” the statement read.

The club added, “A Montenegro international, Matija proudly represented his country on numerous occasions. Everyone at the club sends their love and condolences to Matija’s family and friends at this immensely sad time. The club will make no further comment at this time and asks that the privacy of Matija’s family is respected.”

Tributes have been pouring in for Sarkic, who had a distinguished career with several English clubs. The footballing community mourns the loss of a talented and respected player.
