The best scrabble players from across the country have gathered in Lagos for the yearly Emmanuel Egbele Scrabble Tournament (EEAST), which begins today at the Eko Hotel, Lagos.
This year’s event, tagged the “Fourth Dimension,” according to the organisers, will see more talented youths vying for honours in various categories. The EEAST Championship has always produced the best players in the continent as past winners, Enoch Nwali and Godwin Victor, leveraged on their experience from the competition to win the African Scrabble Championship (ASC) and the PANASA President’s Cup respectively.
The chief convener of the EEAST, Emmanuel Egbele, said everything needed for another remarkable show of top quality world-class competition, will be deployed for the success of the two-day event slated for prestigious Eko Hotel in Lagos.
“This fourth edition will be a massive tournament and another quality contribution to scrabble development to the Southwest zone due to the venue and of course, the country and the world in general,” he said.
Meanwhile, president of Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA), Adekoyejo Adegbesan, has certified EEAST as a rated championship. Adegbesan confirmed the seal of approval after acknowledging the premium contribution of EEAST to scrabble development and promotion of the game in Africa.
Aside the seal of approval of EEAST, Adegbesan also offered to waive the rating fees of the event, which, according to the PANASA president, is a way of supporting the championship.
