Mdou Moctar have shared one more single from their forthcoming album, Funeral for Justice, before its release this Friday, May 3. “Oh France” is a critique of the country’s colonialist history, with lead singer and guitarist Mdou Moctar calling out France’s “turbulent relation” and “lethal games” over the years. Funeral for Justice arrives on May 3 via Matador. Mdou Moctar—consisting of Moctar, rhythm guitarist Ahmoudou Madassane, drummer Souleymane Ibrahim, and bassist and producer Mikey Coltun—have unveiled three songs from the record before its release, including the title track and “Imouhar.” It follows the Nigerien band’s 2021 full-length, Afrique Victime, as well as Niger EP Vol. 1 and Niger EP Vol. 2, both of which came out in 2022.
In June, Mdou Moctar will head out on a summer tour, performing in major cities across the United States and Europe until early September. A handful of festival dates are includes in that run, including stops at Bonnaroo, Green River Music Festival, End of the Road, and Manchester Psych Fest.
