Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has emphasized the need for Nigerian youth to actively participate in governance. He believes that young people should increase their exposure to politics and play a more significant role in decision-making.

At the Students’ Legislative Summit organized by the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin, Governor Makinde declared himself an ally of the youth, pledging to prepare them for future leadership. “We may not be able to prepare the future for the youth, but we can prepare the youth for the future,” he said.

Makinde highlighted the importance of leadership in youth development. He cited historical examples of young leaders who made significant contributions to Nigeria’s governance, such as General Yakubu Gowon, who became Head of State at 31, and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who retired as a General at 39.

Governor Makinde commended Speaker Ogundoyin for organizing the summit, which aims to stimulate the next generation of leaders. He believes that by bringing together young people and experienced leaders, the summit will help bridge the leadership gap in Nigeria.

He reassured Oyo State students of his administration’s commitment to their welfare, stating that bursary awards would be disbursed soon.

The convener of the program, Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin, emphasized the importance of youth development through education, mentorship, and community involvement.
