Manchester City have yet to delve into the summer transfer window – but Pep Guardiola will no doubt be keen to strengthen his team ahead of next season….CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>
When it comes to transfers, most of the talk involving City is centred around players who could leave the Etihad Stadium. And one of those players is Joao Cancelo.
The full-back spent last season on loan at Barcelona, and there has been plenty of speculation linking him with a return to the club this summer. However, according to a report by Sport, the La Liga giants have made Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong their primary target.
The report goes on to claim that new Barcelona boss Hansi Flick is keen to secure the 23-year-old defender in this summer’s transfer window. It is further claimed that the German has followed the Dutchman since he was at Celtic and considers the player a perfect fit in his preferred way of playing football, with attacking full-backs.
A move for Frimpong could end Barca’s interest in Cancelo, given that both players play in the same position and the Catalan side will have other targets in different positions that they won’t bring to the club this summer.
Meanwhile, Las Palmas have reportedly advanced in negotiations with City over another loan deal for Maxi Perrone. According to journalist César Luis Merlo, via Sport Witness, the two sides are working on another loan deal that won’t include an option to make it permanent.
Perrone spent last season on loan with the Spanish side and went on to make 29 appearances in La Liga. He joined City in August 2023 from Vélez Sarsfield.
