Maguire out of England squad

Harry Maguire has not made the final cut for Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

The defender had been nursing a calf injury since April and will not recover in time for the tournament.

He was joined by Jack Grealish in missing out.

Maguire breaks silence

Harry Maguire has confirmed he is not part of England’s final 26-man squad for Euro 2024.

In an Instagram post, he wrote: “I am devastated not to have been selected to play for England at the Euros this summer.

“Despite my best efforts, I have not been able to overcome an injury to my calf. Maybe I pushed myself too hard, to try and make it. Simply, I am absolutely gutted.

“For me, representing England is the highest honour. It means everything to me. If I can’t help the team as a player, I will support them as a fan – along with the rest of the country. Go and win it boys.

“Next, I will return to the supervision of the Manchester United medical team in order to prepare for next season.”

Fergie snub

Paul Gascoigne has revealed a furious Fergie refused to speak to him for six years after he turned down United.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Gascoigne recalls: “I think it took him six years to speak to us again,” after he decided to join Spurs instead.

He claims Fergie said he would sign him if Eric Cantona left, but the Frenchman ended up staying and Gazza moved to Rangers.
