The Plateau State Government has stepped in to provide medical care for Mrs. Hauwa Shagari, the pregnant woman who was amputated by her husband. The Commissioner of Women Affairs, Mrs. Caroline Dafur, confirmed that the 7-month pregnant mother of three is receiving treatment at the hospital.

Following an argument over 20,000 Naira on Wednesday in Jos, Shagari’s husband, a police inspector, allegedly cut off her hand. The Police Command in Jos has confirmed the incident and is investigating the case through the State Criminal Investigation Department.

“The Plateau Commissioner for Health and the Medical Director of Plateau Specialist Hospital have taken measures to ensure she receives the best possible care,” stated Commissioner Dafur. “Her medical expenses are being covered, and her children are being well-cared for by the state. We plan to provide her with a safe haven upon her recovery.”

The Ministry of Women Affairs and the Plateau State Gender Commission have launched an investigation into the incident and are committed to ensuring justice. “Domestic violence, particularly physical abuse, can have severe psychological consequences,” Dafur emphasized. “Victims may experience long-term effects like PTSD, depression, and anxiety.”

Condemning the act as “barbaric insanity,” Dafur assured the public that the case will be handled legally. She praised the Plateau Police for swiftly apprehending the perpetrator, serving as a deterrent to others.

“We urge victims to report violent acts and tendencies to help curb this menace in our society,” Dafur concluded.
