Isaac O. Kamalu, the former Commissioner of Finance in Rivers State, has resigned from his post. His departure comes after his redeployment to the Ministry of Employment and Economic Empowerment in a recent cabinet reshuffle by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Kamalu’s resignation follows that of Professor Zaccheus Adangor, SAN, the former Attorney-General, who also resigned earlier today. Both commissioners are considered loyalists of Nyesom Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of Federal Capital Territory.
In a letter addressed to Governor Fubara and the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, Kamalu cited the “intractable political crisis” in the state as the reason for his resignation. He expressed his hope that the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would have resolved the crisis, but that it had not materialized.
Kamalu stated that it would be challenging to deliver good governance in the absence of peace and stability. He highlighted his accomplishments as Commissioner of Finance, including the increase in the state’s internally generated revenue.
Political analysts believe that the remaining seven commissioners who are loyal to Wike may also resign, as they did during a similar political crisis last year. CONTINUE READING
