A 26-year-old woman has received overwhelming support from Nigerians after her story of turning to “hookup” work to afford goiter surgery went viral.

The woman, whose name remains unknown, shared her plight in a video interview with street comic Comicmiss2. She explained that she had been struggling to raise funds for her surgery since November 2023.

Despite the stigma associated with “hookup” activities, the woman emphasized that she had resorted to them out of desperation for medical treatment. She showed the visible swelling in her throat and expressed her determination to overcome this health challenge.

Moved by her story, Nigerians have rallied together online to raise funds for her surgery. As of Sunday, they had collected 36,000 naira.

Street comedian Comicmiss2 has shared the woman’s account details on social media, encouraging followers to contribute. However, he clarified that he had been unable to reach the woman personally.
