On April 21, 2024, the Nigerian Army confirmed the tragic loss of two officers and four soldiers in an ambush in the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

According to a statement released by Director Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, troops from the 1 Division were ambushed on April 19, 2024, while conducting a patrol in Karaga Village.

Despite facing a fierce attack, the troops engaged the terrorists valiantly, eliminating several and capturing their equipment. However, in the ensuing battle, six personnel, including two officers and four soldiers, made the ultimate sacrifice.

General Officer Commanding 1 Division and Commander Operation Whirl Punch, Maj Gen Landers Saraso, expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and pledged that the setback would be avenged.

He also commended the troops’ bravery and assured the public that they are relentlessly pursuing the fleeing terrorists.

The Nigerian Army has contacted the families of the fallen heroes and conducted burials for the deceased Muslim personnel. The Chief of Army Staff was represented at the burial by Maj Gen Kelvin Aligbe, Commander Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC).

The Deputy Governor, GOC, and other senior officers visited the wounded soldiers and offered their condolences to the bereaved families.

The Army urged the public to provide actionable information to enhance the operations of the troops. The Chief of Army Staff reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Army to ensuring the protection of the people of Niger State and surrounding areas. CONTINUE READING
