In the early morning hours of Sunday, tragedy struck in Oruba Estate, Suna-Ragana, Migori County. PC Gibson Omari Nyambane, a 31-year-old police officer, succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to a police report filed by PC Ronald Ndunda, Nyambane’s colleague, the incident unfolded during a routine patrol. Upon reaching his residence, gunshots were heard from within moments later. PC Ndunda, waiting outside, took cover and entered the house to discover Nyambane lying severely injured on the floor. Evidence indicated that multiple rounds of 7.62mm ammunition had been fired from Nyambane’s CZ firearm (serial number KPS/C352151).
Responding to the scene, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Oruba, Duty Officer, and Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO) from Suna West rushed Nyambane to Lifecare Hospital Migori. However, medical staff pronounced him dead shortly after arrival.
The officer’s body was transferred to the Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination. An inquest (case number PUI. Inquest No.01/2024) has been initiated to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event, led by SCCIO Suna West.
