But O’Sullivan never looked at ease in his tight contest against Bingham.

And it was the 2015 world champion who seized the initiative in the final session of the match.

The score was level at 8-8 going into the evening and O’Sullivan got off to the perfect start, delivering a superb century to take the lead.

But Bingham quickly pegged him back before the duo exchanged frames to make the score 10-10.

A key frame followed in which O’Sullivan became distracted by fans moving in and out of the arena, and he never regained his composure as Bingham won the frame.

The world number 29 was almost faultless throughout and he did not look back after that, winning the next two frames to claim a 13-10 victory.

There was also controversy in frame 12 as O’Sullivan sportingly gave up a chance at a pot before going on to lose the frame.
